Typography workshop with Dominic Dyson

This week, we had a workshop with Dominic Dyson, a lecturer in the university. Who presented to us modular typefaces and spoke about the design principles to do with typefaces. I learnt a lot from his presentation but a particular thing he said which stuck in my head was that ” modular typefaces tend to generalise over simple geometric principles”(Dominic Dyson, 2017). I only properly understood this once we startedusing typography graph paper and were given the following letters to experiment with: afegkmnostuvxAEGKMNOSUVX (both in lower case and upper case). Once you try it yourself you notice that you try one letter and then you either develop it or expand to other letters with a similar style just by using simple geometric shapes.
