Final major project #11 First outcome and user testing

As my first outcome, I have created www.stand4sudan.com: a website which remarks on the Sudanese revolution and empowers young Sudanese women to be part of the movement.

I realised that Unity wasn’t the most appropriate medium to create a web-based platform for this outcome. I used it to design the website background image and screenshot it then coded the rest of the website. The design of the website captures the young Sudanese woman walking in a protest, entering something that society would shun her from attending in the past. Stepping into a future of possibilities as she walks on a poem; visualising a kind of road which then stands with the model as you scroll up. Playing the anthem of the revolution that was originally written by Mohammed Wardi, a famous Sudanese singer who wrote this in 1997 President Bashir was just eight years into power. For over 30 years, President Bashir led a dictatorship and the recent revolution had resulted in people not even being able to afford bread. People protested on the streets chanting the anthem surrender by Mohammed Wardi once again as the singer Zoozita brought it back to light.

Due to the current outbreak, the Sudanese economy is suffering, people are breaking their silence again using the #standforsudan. The government is accepting donations worldwide on www.standforsudan.com, but I noticed the domain www.stand4sudan.com was still for sale so I bought it.

User testing feedback:

  • To add a translation of the poem in English
  • Use more clear audio of the poem
  • Cover the holes in the shoe
  • Produce a clearer 3d model

A participant suggested: ” Maybe you can do user research and ask the main audience if they prefer the Arabic alphabet or English equivalent [for the welcome]? Or try animating the text to see both?”. Therefore, I did an Instagram poll whereby 15 participants and the majority answer was to include Arabic.
