Data for change #6

Screen-Shot-2019-04-28-at-00.51.04.png

Despite hearing from the Imperial college representative that they wanted us to design an App. I would have designed one anyways for this project because Apps are a good UI where you can track users activity directly and you’re encouraging them to be active rather than passive about Air pollution (in this scenario). Many people hear about air pollution, find out more about it but aren’t very active in terms of changing it. Yes, recycling has become the norm now but making major changes such as the use of transport isn’t concentrated on a result of people battling with time, for example, getting to work. There is so much data there but it’s not comprehensible or user-friendly to read for which I have prototyped this App.

The shades of blue are to represent air and the intensity of the blue is based on air pollution quality.

User journey narrative based off video:

You open the App and log in either with your E-mail or Facebook (these are two ways we can gather data about the user easily). Next, log in with your username and password to then agree to privacy policy/terms and conditions since the intent of the App is to gather data and do further research the user needs to be aware of their rights. Press continue to go through the tutorial by swiping right and click next to find yourself on the main screen. Type in your destination, view supposed areas below the type bar above 50% of the screen which is viewing and select one of the options below making it reachable for your thumb if it’s already at the bottom. Straight away you are directed to the routes where you have the option to select the type of route you would like to take: least polluted, least polluting and quickest. Below is shown your journey coloured in shades of blue based on contribution to air pollution. You can spot what time you arrive at the top right-hand corner and select continue. Once continue is pressed, you see yourself on the map with dots coloured in shades of blue based on contribution to air pollution and a geotag of your destination. But, before confirming the way you can check out some information on air pollution. Then, select the yellow arrow at the top right-hand corner to go. On your way, you could find out some information on air pollution and still see a visualisation of how far you are from your destination but also see your activity from the menu to see how you’re doing.

Integrating air pollution data into the App:

  • AQI would be detected depending on your current location.
  • The three main gases contributing to air pollution will change in colour depending on the volume of that gas in the area.
  • The there are three types of routes: least polluting route, least polluted route and quickest route. The data for the least polluting route would come from finding out the best route to your destination which is emitting the least of the gases contributing to air pollution. The data for the least polluted route would be based on air pollution data of roads and would recommend the roads with least air pollution going towards your destination. The quickest route would recommend the quickest mode of transport to your destination.
