Contextual Theoretical Studies

CTS short for contextual theoretical studies is the theory side of a practical study. In CTS, you would learn about different aspects of design such as marketing, graphic design and so forth, that can be incorporated into our work. Without CTS, you will not understand the theory behind information and interface design as it would provide the knowledge related to your practical skills.Last Thursday, we were set the task of finding a book from the library that we could get inspiration from. Most people brought books that they could visually be inspired by like photography books whilst I brought a reading book that I thought I could be inspired by its context. In terms of culture which the author talks about in her book which I could apply it to my studies. As you have to take into consideration the culture of your audience when creating and presenting your work. When being assigned to the activity I was not too sure of what kind of book to bring resulting in me bringing in an ordinary book. Even if I knew we could burrow like a photography book I doubt I would have borrowed it as I enjoy bibliography and autobiographies. The book was called . The story was based on the author’s experience of being hired by Levi and exploring the Latin American culture as a form of research for the company. Through her travels, she understood the values of the people and their lifestyle. But, got an understanding of the arrogance that the west had in these developing countries. This really opened my eyes into the views to the people and the politics.Then, we discussed further into the physical aspects of our books. What I found interesting was that someone had a photography book which had a difficult title to read from unless the light pointed at it. This highlighted the fact that there wouldn't be much text to read from. Also, the image that it had shown on the cover was a sneak peek of what you would see in the rest of the book. The task was an eye opener to how CTS sessions will be like and how it would broaden our knowledge.
